Mountain View Car Arson Suspects Arrested

Police in Mountain View have arrested two people in a case of arson.

According to police, the suspects, Paul Schonhardt of Los Altos and Angela Rutledge of San Jose, set three cars on fire on Jan. 14.

When officers arrived, they discovered the vehicles fully engulfed in flames behind Pedro’s Auto Clinic on Terra Bella Avenue, police said.

The vehicles were unoccupied and no one was injured, according to police, who continue to investigate the motive behind the arson

Investigators say one of the cars belonged to Schonhardt and that he owed money to the auto shop.

Police were able to identify the suspects with the help of witnesses, surveillance video and fingerprints.

They were arrested on Jan. 24 and booked into San Jose’s Main Jail on charges ranging from arson of property to possession of methamphetamine and controlled substances.
