A multi-vehicle fatal crash Thursday shut down northbound Highway 17 in the Santa Cruz Mountains, according to the California Highway Patrol, and aerial views later showed both directions stopped at the scene near the summit.
The CHP issued a Sig-alert just before 3 p.m., saying there were "several significant events relating to injury collisions and trees down in the area of northbound Highway 17 before and after the summit."
The CHP later said the crash near the summit was fatal.
Sheriff's deputies and police chase a UPS truck through San Jose. The pursuit eventually turned into a standoff on North First Street.
At least three vehicles were involved on one crash, and aerial views showed a separate crash involving an overturned vehicle.
