Muni to Debut E-Embarcadero Waterfront Streetcar in August

Muni's new E-Embarcadero streetcar, which will take passengers from San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf to Caltrain's Fourth Street station via vintage streetcars, debuts weekend service on August 1.

The E didn't happen overnight, not by a longshot. SF Examiner noted that the waterfront streetcar has been in the works since 1979.

“I congratulate the SFMTA on finally achieving this milestone, one we envisioned when I was Mayor,” former Mayor Dianne Feinstein told the publication. Feinstein added that she supports a proposal to eventually extend the line from Fisherman's Wharf to Fort Mason.

Market Street Railway, a nonprofit which maintains the city's vintage streetcars, asks for volunteer docents for the E-Embarcadero during opening weekend; email volunteer@streetcar.org to join.
