Murder Suicide Suspected in Fremont House Fire

A 33-year-old woman and her 4-month-old daughter were found dead  in a Fremont home Tuesday evening after a fire that a police sergeant said has been "deemed suspicious."

Fremont police spokesman Will Veteran said it looks like this is a case of murder-suicide case.  He did not explain what brought him to that conclusion other than to say that the bedroom door was locked from the inside.

The fire was reported at about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at a home in the 4500 block of Leonato Way, police Sgt. Chris Mazzone said.  An eight year old child ran to her neighbor and screamed that her home was on fire.    That neighbor told reporters that when they went in the house they could not get in the bedroom.

Firefighters say when they arrived the found smoke coming from the upstairs bedroom.  They had to force open the door and that is where they found the victims.

Police detectives and arson investigators are at the home Wednesday to  try to determine the cause of the blaze, which was confined to the room where  the two bodies were found, Mazzone said.

The father was not home at the time of the fire.
