NFL Guru Has 49ers Taking a Corner With a Twist

The San Francisco 49ers will draft a cornerback in ths month's draft, according to one of the NFL's most respect writers.

But Jim Harbaugh and company will not be drafting the cornerback that most draftniks have had the 49ers taking.

Sports Illustrated's Peter King will release his final mock draft Wednesday and he has the 49ers being a major player in the shaping of the first round.

King predicts that the Panthers will take Auburn quarterback Cam Newton and that the Cincinnati Bengals will take Blaine Gabbert at No. 4.

The scenario would seem to set up perfectly for the 49ers to have one of the draft's most talented players fall to them.

In fact King has LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson available for San Francisco at No. 7 but instead of selecting him, King has the 49ers trading the pick to the Texans so they can draft Peterson.

If that plays out, King says the 49ers would then take the draft's second best cornerback with the No. 11 pick in Nebraska's Prince Amukamara.

King doesn't explain why the 49ers would give up the top-rated corner in the draft for the second rated.

To read the full mock draft and the logic behind it, you can check out King's article online Tuesday or on newsstands in the magazine Wednesday.
