Man Sentenced in Napa to 10 Years for Pimping 2 Teen Girls

Napa County Superior Court judge sentenced a 20-year-old man in October to 10 years in state prison for sexual exploitation of two 17-year-old high school girls, county prosecutors said Thursday.

Marquez Thomas of Sacramento acted as the girls' pimp and arranged commercial sex work for them in hotels in San Francisco, Daly City, Napa County and Reno, Nevada, prosecutors said.

Thomas also tried to recruit buyers for the minors in advertisements on websites commonly used for prostitution. Thomas met one of the girls via Instagram and the other through the first victim, according to prosecutors.

The girls' families contacted Napa police when they noticed their daughters' suspicious behavior that included trips to San Francisco. Police then turned the investigation over to the Napa Special Investigations Bureau.

Thomas pleaded no contest to six felony and two misdemeanor charges that included pimping, pandering, inducing consent to sex by force or fear, stalking, unlawful sexual intercourse of a minor and possession of child pornography.

Napa County Superior Court Judge Mark Boessenecker in October sentenced Thomas to the 10-year term and ordered him to register as a sex offender.

Deputy District Attorney Taryn Hunter said the case shows Napa County is not immune from sex trafficking and that its victims are not only runaways or at-risk youth.
