Napa Police Release New Details in Officer Involved Shooting

Man is expected to survive

The Napa County Sheriff's Office has identified a man who was shot in the face by a Napa police officer late Sunday night as Luis Armando Contreras.

Contreras was shot in the backyard of a home in the 2100 block of Parrish Road by Officer Thomas Keener around 11 p.m., sheriff's Capt. Tracey Stuart said.

The 25-year-old Napa man was taken by ambulance to Queen of the Valley Medical Center then to a Santa Rosa Hospital and is in a medically-induced coma, Stuart said.

Keener has been with the Napa Police Department since December 2010 and has been placed on paid administrative leave, Stuart said.

Keener informed the Napa Police Department's dispatch center he was in a foot pursuit behind the 7-Eleven store around 11 p.m., Stuart said.

Three minutes later he informed dispatchers he had fired shots in the backyard of the home on Parrish Road, Stuart said.

Contreras is expected to survive.
