NatGeo Names San Jose's Japantown, San Francisco's North Beach Among Friendliest Neighborhoods in U.S.

San Jose’s Japantown and San Francisco’s North Beach were named two of the friendliest neighborhoods in the nation by NatGeo Travel.

The magazine says Japantown has great authentic restaurants and something for everybody.

Japantown “offers tastes of immigrant culture all year at sushi bars, family-run groceries, and the Shuei-Do Manju Shop, which serves rice-flour sweets in flavors such as cherry blossom,” the magazine wrote.

The magazine also mentions the Japanese American Museum of San Jose and the Obon Festival, which runs from July 13 to 14.

NatGeo also gives North Beach in San Francisco rave reviews, writing, “Despite tourist crowds at City Lights Bookstore and Coit Tower, the nonna-and-pop warmth remains."
