Downtown San Jose is about to get a lot brighter and colorful.
A new public art piece called Sonic Runway unveiled in front of San Jose City Hall, along Santa Clara Street, on Friday night.
The installation is a "corridor of lights that visualizes the speed of sound," according to the Sonic Runway website. The corridors of the installation are lined with 277 LEDs and analyzes live audio to create intricate patterns at the speed of sound.
The installation is the first artwork for the 'Playa to Paseo' initiative to incorporate more art in Downtown San Jose. For the next two to three months viewers can walk through Sonic Runway and experience the pulsing lights for themselves.
