New Dunkin' Donuts to Open in Walnut Creek

The new location in the East Bay will open on June 22.

The wait is almost over for Bay Area donut fanatics. In just two weeks, Wednesday, June 22 to be exact, a new Dunkin’ Donuts will open.

The company plans to open the new location at 1250 Newell Avenue in Walnut Creek, selling its signature coffee and baked goods from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.

“America runs on Dunkin’, and soon, the Bay Area will too,” said Matt Cabo, Golden Gate Restaurant Group owner.

Golden Gate Restaurant Group, LLC is the franchise behind the new Walnut Creek shop and plans to open 12 Dunkin’ Donuts location in Contra Costa County over the next few years.

The popular chain, which describes itself as "America's all-day, everyday stop for coffee and baked goods," had a small presence in California in the late 1990s, and re-entered the market once again with one location in Sacramento in August 2002.

The locations closed because "the time wasn’t right for the brand and the infrastructure didn’t exist to grow and expand in the state," said Michelle King, a Dunkin’ Donuts spokesperson.

The new location is a distinguished part of Dunkin’ Donuts’ DD Green Achievement Program that aims to help franchises build sustainable, energy efficient restaurants. The grand opening celebration will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring food and beverage samples, as well as special giveaways.
