New Education Standards Increases Need for Electronic School Supplies

Schools incorporating more technology-based curriculum. Kris Sanchez reports. (Published Monday, Aug. 12, 2013)

California's public schools are moving toward common core standards, which means educators are getting all students the coursework they need to get into college. And technology will be a big part of that, especially in the assessment.

Technology equipment are also finding its way onto some school supply lists.

Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland requires students have their own laptops.

At Valley Christian School in San Jose, all middle and high school students must have their own iPad.

"Where the world is now going, technology devices are going to be like having a pencil," said Muhammed Chaundhry of the Silicon Valley Education Foundation. "You will need to have devices in their hands for them to make sure they have a learning experience."
