San Jose firefighters welcomed the public to a grand opening of a new fire station Saturday.
Station 24 is located where Yerba Buena Road meets Silver Creek Road in southeast San Jose.
A fire department spokesperson said the new station marks a turnaround after steady cutbacks.
“Given in light the reduction of services over the last few years, this is really a step forward for the city of San Jose to provide fire protection services right now when they’re needed, where they’re needed," San Jose Fire Capt. Shannon Blean said.
People at the opening toured the firehouse and ate a slice of cake. The mayor was there to celebrate as well.
