A 57-year-old Newark woman is charged with murder after allegedly attacking her mother with a hammer early Sunday morning, police said.
Newark police said a woman called them just before 8:30 a.m. Sunday to report that she had assaulted her mother inside a residence on the 7100 block of Mathews Landing Road.
Police said that when officers arrived at the house, Cindy Lynn Burleigh admitted to them that she had attacked her mother with a hammer.
Officers then found Burleigh's 75-year-old mother, Nancy Eleanor Burleigh, bleeding from her head. She was immediately transported to a trauma center to be treated for multiple skull fractures, according to police. She succumbed to her injuries on Monday.
Cindy Lynn Burleigh is being held at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin without bail.
