Non-Professional Cyclist Hurt Near Amgen Finish Line

A bicyclist suffered major injuries after colliding with a car in San Jose Wednesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The cyclist was struck in the 4100 block of Sierra Road at about 4:10 p.m., CHP Sgt. John Carman told Bay City News.

That is near the end of the race course of Wednesday's Tour of California, but was not a rider in the race and instead was a spectator according to NBC Bay Area crews on the scene.

Many of the people who turned out to watch the riders finish witnessed the crash.

The Amgen Tour of California began Monday in Nevada City and stretches more than 800 miles  through California.  It marked the midway point on Wednesday finishing in the hills of San Jose. Riders will continue with more stages south of the Bay Area ending on Sunday in Thousand Oaks.
