Note to Self: Try to Avoid Robbing Cops

A little research can make a big difference in all walks of life.

Case in point: a burglary suspect is under arrest after allegedly trying to rob the home of an off-duty police officer.

The 19-year-old man was arrested Monday morning on suspicion of  trying to rob a home in  Redwood City.

The unidentified officer said his dogs woke him up Monday morning around 10 a.m.  He said because of his dogs' tone caused him to grab his personal gun and start checking the house.

San Mateo County sheriff's Lt. Ray  Lunny said the officer found the suspect, Rodolfo Maldonaldo,  and ordered him to stop.

Maldonaldo didn't listen and instead ran out of the house.

A quick chase followed which ended with the officer tackling the would-be robber in the back yard.  He called 911 and held the suspect down until help arrived.

Lunny refused to say which police agency the officer works for, but said he does not appear to have been specifically targeted.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call sheriff's Detective Saul Lopez at (650) 363-4347 or the sheriff's office anonymous tip  line at (800) 547-2700.
