Students and staff at Oak Grove High School were evacuated Tuesday afternoon as the San Jose Police Department's bomb squad investigated a suspicious device.
The bomb squad determined the device to be a functioning explosive, prompting the evacuation, and hours later rendered it safe, police said. A search of the campus was conducted, and no additional devices were located.
On Wednesday, Santa Clara County and FBI crime labs were conducting a full analysis of the device and its contents.
The school at 285 Blossom Hill Road was evacuated sometime after 1:30 p.m. to a nearby park at Coy Drive and Judith Street, San Jose police said.
Initially, police issued a precautionary shelter in place for the school just before noon.
By about 6 p.m., police said the bomb squad rendered the suspicious device safe and cleared the campus.
