Oakland Arson Investigators Looking into 2 Suspicious Fires at Same Residence

Arson investigators are investigating two suspicious fires that started late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning at the same location in Oakland, a fire battalion chief said.

The first call of a fire came in just shy of midnight at a duplex at 853 and 855 Mead Ave., between Market Street and San Pablo Avenue, Oakland Fire Battalion Chief Melinda Drayton said.

Firefighters found four suspicious ignition sources in the fire, which was extinguished.

A second fire was then reported at about 2:20 a.m. in the rear of the duplex by the water heater, Drayton said, adding that the duplex is being remodeled and was vacant.

Firefighters didn't suffer any injuries in either fire, Drayton said.
