Oakland Mayor's Car Window Smashed During Event

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan suffers familiar fate.

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan may head the city and the police department, but she is not immune to crime.

Quan had her car window smashed into while she was at a meeting with constituents at Chabot Space and Science Center in the Oakland hills, according to reports.

Nothing was taken from the mayor's vehicle, her spokesman told the Chronicle, so it's unclear if the act was vandalism or a failed theft.

In any case, the break-in is Quan's second publicized brush with the problems Oaklanders deal with: She was robbed of her purse in 2010 while she was on the City Council while on her way to go grocery shopping.

City Council member Larry Reid also had his car broken into six months ago while he was eating dinner, the newspaper reported.

There were almost 7,000 auto break-ins in Oakland in 2013, the newspaper reported.
