Bay Area Community Services is asking everyone to be on the look out for a stolen Meals on Wheels bus.

The white Ford transit bus was stolen Monday just after 11 a.m. while it was parked in the 3800 block of Fruitvale Street in Oakland. A witness said two men stole the vehicle.

Oakland police are investigating the theft.

The vehicle has been used by BACS to deliver meals to homebound seniors.

It should be easy to spot because it has a BACS logo on the side and license plate number 8Y19408.

Program Manager for Meals on Wheels Visakha Som said without the bus some seniors will not get their only meal of the day.

“This is a tragedy as it hinders our ability to get meals to 70 food insecure seniors a day and more than 270 per week," Som said.

The photo at the top of the article shows a similar van from behind. The photo to the right shows the side of the van and the logo. It was the back drop during a recent interview with Mayor Jean Quan.

BACS is also hoping people will volunteer as delivery drivers until the vehicle is found or replaced.
