Oakland Police Department Urges Residents to Be Aware of Recent Scam

A scam is being perpetrated by a person claiming to be an Oakland police dispatcher and residents are urged to be aware of it, police said Thursday.

Someone is calling from what will appear to be the Oakland Police Department's non-emergency phone number at (510) 777-3333 and this is a scam, according to police.

The person claiming to be a dispatcher asks for money and says that if they are not paid the U.S. Marshals Service will arrest the recipient of the call.
