Oakland Police Hope “Selfie” Leads to Arrest of Robbery Suspects

Oakland police are hoping that a picture an armed robbery suspect took of himself using his victim's cellphone will lead to his arrest.

Police said the female victim was walking down the street in the 2100 block of East 28th Street at about 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 19 when two men armed with handguns approached her and demanded her cellphone and necklace.

The woman complied and the suspects drove off with the items, according to police.

Later that night, one of the suspects used the woman's cellphone to take a picture of himself, which police released Friday in an effort to identify him.

The suspect who took the "selfie" is described as a black male between the ages of 17 and 21 who is about 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds with a dark complexion, short black hair and brown eyes. Police said he has solid gold covering his upper and lower teeth.

Police described the other suspect as a black male between 17 and 21 years old who is about 6 feet tall and 170 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Oakland police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of the suspects in the case.

Oakland police said their investigation into the armed robbery is ongoing. Anyone with information about the case should call the department's robbery and assault unit at 510-238-3326 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
