Oakland Police Shoot Man Allegedly Armed with Shotgun

The 24-year-old man is in stable condition at the hospital after police felt threatened and shot him.

A 24-year-old man Oakland police say was armed with a shotgun is hospitalized after he was shot during a confrontation with officers.

A police spokesman says when officers assigned to a special crime reduction team tried to detain the man for questioning around 9 p.m. Tuesday, he ran from the officers.

Officer Johnna Watson says officers opened fire when they "perceived a threat to their lives." Watson says both officers fired. She did not say how many shots were fired.

The suspect, who has not been named, was taken to a local hospital where he was in stable condition.

Police say a gun was recovered from the scene.
