Oakland Police Look for Robber

Oakland police shut down streets, looking for robber.

Oakland police raced to a home in the eastern part of the city Thursday morning, where a robbery suspect had gone inside and refused to come out.

By noon, police had figured out he wasn't inside, and the search for him continued.

But the big scene outside a home in the 2700 block of Ritchie Street, which started just before 10 a.m., ended, according to the police department.

Police had first thought the man had run in there, and was possibly armed. Police said he was also wanted in connection with a prior robbery.

During the situation, Troy Flint, a spokesman for the Oakland Unified School District, said Parker Elementary was on a "semi-lockdown," meaning that students aren't being allowed outside the school, but inside, "it's business as usual."
