The occupiers have returned, and this time, they're not going away.
The Occupy SF movement has moved back into space near the Federal Reserve Bank at 101 Market Street in San Francisco, using bicycle-powered generators to run laptops and munching on bags of donated food, even as police hauled away a protester on Monday for allegedy using marijuana, according to reports.
According to witnesses, the man, who is not identified, was using marijuana at Market and Spear streets when a pair of officers approached him, confiscated his marijuana card and his stash. The man "jokingly" tried to run away before he was tackled by officers and arrested. He was arrested for assault, a Federal Reserve officer told Bay City News.
If that or the rain put a pall on the movement, it hasn't stopped it from spreading to Oakland and Berkeley, where Occupy protests were scheduled to go up on Monday, near Oakland City Hall beginning at 4 p.m. and in Berkeley, beginning on Saturday.
Labor unions, such as Unite Here Local 2, are also scheduled to demonstrate in solidarity with Occupy SF, which is a companion movement to the Occupy Wall Street movement, which has been in place in New York since mid-September.
