Occupy the Suburbs: Walnut Creek Next Stop for Occupy Protests

From Wall Street to Main Street -- or, in this case, Mt. Diablo Boulevard.

The nation's Occupy movement, the protest forces opposing banks and the country's general financial and political orders, is taking to the streets in Walnut Creek on Wednesday, according to the Contra Costa Times.

The Occupy Wall Street protests in New York City, in place since mid-September, have spawned sister movements in the Bay Area in San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, and Berkeley, but Walnut Creek is believed to be among the first suburban targets for citizen ire.

About 20 people plan to protest at the corner of Mt. Diablo Boulevard and Locust Street in Walnut Creek beginning at 4 p.m. Wednesday, according to the newspaper.

The location was chosen because it is somewhat close to branches of Bank of America and Wells Fargo Bank, organizer Sergio Lubizer told the newspaper. So leave the debit cards at home.
