Offensive Tagger Held In Psych Ward

Katherine "KKKatie" Dunbar facing felony charges

Katherine Dunbar, better known to San Franciscans as "KKKatie," is being held in a psychiatric unit at San Francisco County Jail, according to a report from KGO.

Dunbar is facing a number of felony and misdemeanor charges, including felony vandalism and felony assault, and could be convicted of perpetrating hate crimes. Through her publicly-appointed defense attorney, Dunbar has plead not guilty on all charges.

Witness Alton Moore first spotted Dunbar spray-painting "KKKatie is the harsh reality and down for whatever" on portable toilets in the early morning hours before Bay to Breakers.

After Moore asked Dunbar what she was doing, Dunbar confronted him with threats, and the whole exchange can be heard in Moore's call to 911.

After being released, Dunbar almost immediately started tagging again, until being arrested by police and taken to the emergency psychiatric ward at San Francisco General Hospital.

Dunbar's signature tag had been popping up around San Francisco starting in January.
