Robbery Suspect Is Shot By An Oakland Police Officer

A robbery suspect is recovering after an Oakland Police Officer shot him during a chase. The shootingt happened on the 2000-block of 62nd Avenue near International Boulevard at around 11:43 p.m. Sunday.

The officer attempted to stop a car which may have been involved in a recent robbery. A chase ensued after the passenger fled on foot. Police say the pursuing officer fired his gun after noticing the suspect had a firearm. The suspect was taken to a local hospital where he's listed in stable condition.

Meantime, police are searching for the driver who fled in his car. A handgun was recovered at the scene by responding officers. Oakland Police Department's Internal Affairs Division is now running an independent investigation into the shooting.
