Two Dead, One Arrested for DUI After Collision in San Jose

Two people died after a multiple-vehicle traffic collision in San Jose early Sunday morning, and one driver has been arrested on DUI suspicion, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The suspect vehicle which was identified as a Dodge Charger, was traveling at high speeds on the northbound U.S. Highway 101 connector to Interstate 280 when it overtook a Nissan Rogue, the CHP said.

The impact of the collision detached the rear tailgate of the Nissan and caused it to travel out of control and hit a guard rail. A passenger in the rear seat of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene by Santa Clara County paramedics, the CHP said.

The driver of the Nissan was transported to Regional Medical Center, where he was later confirmed dead as well, the CHP said.

A total of three passengers who were in the Dodge Charger were transported to Valley Medical Center with minor injuries.

Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Dodge Charger was arrested at the scene for gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol. He was identified as 21-year-old Esteban Aguilar Jimenez from San Jose, the CHP said.

After being released from the hospital, Jimenez will be transported to Santa Clara County Jail.
