One man is dead and two people have been hospitalized after a three-car collision on southbound Interstate Highway 880 in Oakland.
The crash occurred at 1:38 a.m. on the highway near Interstate Highway 980, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers say a car was stalled on I-880, but could not confirm why the car stopped in traffic. The extent of injuries sustained by the two surviving victims also remains unknown.
The collision forced officers to issue a Sig-alert and shut down three lanes. The roadway has since been reopened, officers said.
The CHP is investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the accident.
