Overturned Big-Rig Hauling Crushed Cars Blocks 101 Traffic in San Rafael

A big-rig car carrier overturned on its side Monday morning on southbound U.S. Highway 101 in San Rafael, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The tractor with a trailer containing eight old and crushed vehicles jackknifed at 10:40 a.m. on southbound Highway 101 between the Central San Rafael on-ramp and Interstate Highway 580, CHP officials said.

Southbound traffic was passing the scene in the paved center median as of late this morning, CHP Officer Andrew Barclay said. All other southbound lanes are blocked.

No vehicles spilled onto the highway from the trailer and no other vehicles were involved in the crash, Barclay said.

The tractor-trailer driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries, Barclay said.

The tractor-trailer was swaying from side to side before it overturned and a small fuel spill was immediately contained, according to Barclay.
