A couple of Palo Alto movie theater employees escaped injury when they were robbed at gunpoint Tuesday night, authorities said.
Police responded to the CineArts theater at Palo Alto Square, 3000 El Camino Real, around 10 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about a robbery.
Two men entered the theater and one of them pointed a gun at an employee, a man in his late teens, according to police. A second suspect pointed a gun at the head of another employee, a woman in her 20s.
The suspects grabbed the employees' cellphones and demanded to be taken to the theater's safe, police said. When the suspects saw that little cash was easily accessible, they fled and remain at large, police said.
All of the theater's patrons had left before the robbery and the doors were unlocked and open.
Police are describing one suspect as a skinny Hispanic man in his 20s who is about 5 feet 8 inches tall. The other suspect is being described as a skinny black man in his 20s who is about 6 feet tall. Both men were wearing black hooded sweatshirts, black pants, black gloves and black masks. The mask of one of the suspects was similar to an athletic training mask, according to police.
The suspects used black semi-automatic handguns during the robbery. Police said no surveillance video of the incident exists and no sketches of the suspects are immediately available.
