Palo Alto OKs $100 Fines For Wasting Water

Four strikes, and you're out $100 a day for wasting water in Palo Alto.

The Peninsula city has managed to cut water use by 13 percent over the past year during the current epic California drought, but water wasters could face fines of $100 a day for repeated water waste, according to reports.

The Palo Alto Weekly reports that the City Council has OK'd $100 daily fines for water wasters who ignore repeated warnings to close off the tap.

The city will focus on education versus enforcement, the newspaper reported, with penalties coming after three warnings.

So far, there have been 50 violations of water use restrictions since Aug. 4, including those who watered lawns during daylight hours .
