Parents Arrested for Toddler's Accidental Shooting Death

The parents of a 2-year-old Vacaville girl who was accidentally shot to death by her brother two weeks ago are behind bars in connection with their daughter's death.

Michael and Daniela Shanahan are in Solano County Jail, arrested on suspicion of two counts of child endangerment and one count of criminal storage of a firearm.

Daniela Shanahan was also booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The Shanahan's 8-year-old son was playing with a gun when it fired, hitting their daughter, Ayana, in the head. Their son is now in protective custody.

Michael Shanahan is an active U.S. Army reservist.

Authorities found several guns in the house during their investigation. Some are believed to be inherited from family members.

The Shanahans could face up to 13 years in state prison if they are convicted on all the counts. A court date has not been set.
