Park Rangers To Ticket Mountain Bikers for Speed Starting April

Mountain bikers in Marin County better watch their speed, because park rangers are taking notice and giving citations.

Starting in April, park rangers equipped with radar guns will be patrolling areas where complaints have come in about bikers travelling too fast.

The new efforts are part of a campaign to calm tensions between everyone using the crowded trails, including joggers, horseback riders, dog walkers, hikers and bikers, according to park rangers.

The speed limit for mountain bikes on open space trails in Marin County is 15 miles an hour -- a speed that bikers going downhill will surely need to hit the brake for.
