A man who was fatally shot by a police officer at a home in Union City Monday night has been identified as 47-year-old Timothy Lopez, police said Wednesday.
Lopez, a Union City resident, was shot at his home around 8:30 p.m. after police responded to a neighborhood disturbance reported in the 4200 block of Saturn Way, police said.
When officers arrived at the home, they learned that one of the suspects, later identified as Lopez, was on parole and had a warrant for resisting or deterring an officer by use of threat, force or violence, according to police.

Police went into the home and found Lopez armed with a pipe, according to police.
Police said he was confrontational and refused to comply with orders from the officers.
After he threatened the officers with the pipe, an officer opened fire at him.

Lopez was taken to a hospital where he later died.
The officer who shot at Lopez was put on administrative leave, as per the department's policy, police said.
The incident is being investigated independently by both the Union City Police Department and the Alameda County District Attorney's Office.
