Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Car in San Jose

A 47-year-old pedestrian died early Saturday morning after being hit by a car on Monterey Road, San Jose police said.

The man, whose name has not been released, was hit about 3:21 a.m. by a 2014 Mazda traveling northbound on Monterey Road at Rancho Drive, according to San Jose police Sgt. Enrique Garcia.

The victim was not in a crosswalk when he was hit, police said. He was taken to a hospital, where he died a short time later.

The Mazda was driven by a 47-year-old woman who remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. It doesn't appear that drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, Garcia said.

The incident is the 18th pedestrian death so far this year in San Jose, and the city's 44th traffic-related fatality of 2018.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Detective Brian McMahon of the San Jose police traffic investigations unit at 408-277-4654.
