Pilot Realizes Landing Gear Problem as He Lands

A pilot of a small aircraft was unhurt after he landed without landing gear at the San Carlos Airport this morning, a San Mateo County sheriff's deputy said.

Around 9:30 a.m. a 56-year-old pilot took off from San Luis Obispo in a Mooney M20J plane headed for San Carlos.

As he touched down on the runway at the San Carlos airport around 11:20 a.m., the pilot realized that his landing wheels were still up, Deputy Rebecca Rosenblatt said.

The pilot, a resident of the San Luis Obispo County community of Los Osos, was able to land safety without the landing gear and was uninjured, according to the sheriff's office.

The airport closed while crews moved the plane off of the runway and has since reopened.
