Man Who Barricaded Himself in San Francisco Home Taken Into Custody

A man who barricaded himself in a home in San Francisco's Sunset District in an alleged mental health crisis Thursday night was taken into custody Friday morning, a police spokeswoman said.

Police received a call around 10:57 p.m. Thursday. The man barricaded himself in the home in the 1600 block of 29th Avenue, according to Officer Grace Gatpandan. No one else was in the house, she said.

"Having the proper resources to go out and assist someone with a mental health crisis, we had our negotiators go out there and take however long it might take to get him into custody and get him the help he needs," Gatpandan said.

The man was taken into custody around 8 a.m., she said.

"First and foremost, he will be getting medical attention," Gatpandan said of the man. "At this point, he is going to go to the doctor and get evaluated, and we'll go from there."
