Westbound Interstate 580 in Oakland was shut down for hours Tuesday afternoon after an officer shot at a reckless driver who rammed her car into a paratransit van and a police squad car, the California Highway Patrol said.
The incident started out as a pursuit out of Castro Valley that ended in the collision on I-580. It took about four hours for investigators to clear the area for evidence and reopen the interstate in time for the evening commute.
CHP said an officer in the Dublin area was told to be on the lookout for a woman in a silver Chevy Impala who driving erratically on I-580. The officer spotted the reckless driver and tried to pull her over.
But the CHP said the driver took off and continued to head westbound. Two officers from the Castro Valley area joined the chase, which ended near the border of the Oakland and Emeryville.
CHP said the woman tried to ram her way between a wall and an East Bay Paratransit van, but ultimately got stuck. That's when CHP said the woman rammed a police squad car and the van in a last-ditch chance to get away.
One of the officers opened fire, but the bullet missed. Officers managed to arrest the woman, who they said appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
The driver of the paratransit van was not injured.

Police said the woman will likely face charges for reckless driving and evading police.
