Police Respond to Shooting at Hilltop Mall in Richmond

Police were investigating a shooting Monday night that prompted a lockdown at Richmond's Hilltop Mall, according to Richmond police.

One person suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. They were unsure whether the shot was self-inflicted or if it was fired by another person.

First reports of the shooting came in about 5:50 p.m., police said. One shot was fire, and no other injuries were reported.

The incident started as an argument in front of the Shoe Palace store in the middle of the mall, police said.

Investigators were poring over surveillance video to try to determine who fired the shot and where the suspect fled.
