Fremont Police Shoot, Kill Man Suspected of Brandishing Knife

A 48-year-old man suspected of brandishing a knife at a Fremont park was shot and killed by police, according to the Fremont Police Department.

Fremont police said the shooting happened at about 2:15 p.m. Friday.

A call reporting a man threatening two kids with a large knife came in just after 2 p.m., police said. Three officers responded to the area on Lake Arrowhead Avenue, near Sylvester Harvey Park.

Police said one officer fired a Taser and a second officer fired their gun at the suspect. None of the officers involved were injured, authorities said.

Investigators later questioned whether or not any kids were involved in the reported incident.

"Our investigation has led us to believe that they may not be kids," said Geneva Bosques, Fremont police spokeswoman. "That is may actually be young adults or someone who looked young."

Police said the officers involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave after they have been interviewed by investigators.

Additional details were not immediately available.
