Woman Hurt, Chihuahua Killed After 2 Pit Bulls' Attack in San Francisco

A woman was injured and a small dog was killed after an attack by a pair of now-captured pit bulls in San Francisco last month, according to the police department.

The attack occurred about 4:30 p.m. Nov. 20 in the 600 block of Brunswick Street, police said. The victim, a 52-year-old woman, was walking a Chihuahua mix named Jowie when she saw the two loose pit bulls running toward her. She immediately picked up Joey to protect him, and the two larger dogs jumped on her and knocked her to the ground, police said.

The pit bulls then attacked and killed Jowie.

During the attack on the smaller dog, the woman was dragged across the pavement as she held onto Jowie’s leash. She suffered injuries not considered life-threatening, police said.

The dogs eventually took off, and a male believed to be the dogs' owner also fled the scene, police said.

The dogs have since been apprehended and are now in the custody of San Francisco Animal Care and Control. It is not clear how or when they were detained.
