Popular SF Cook Fighting for Life

Police found him in the street at 16th and Valencia after a fight

A popular cook in San Francisco's trendy restaurant scene is fighting for his life.

Friends say 39-year-old Caesar Chuc is on life support at General Hospital. Police found him in the street at 16th and Valencia streets Tuesday morning around 2 a.m. after officers broke up a large fight.

Friends say his heart had stopped. No one is sure exactly what happended but many believe thieves targeted Chuc because restaurant workers are known to carry lots of cash.

Chuc worked in many kitchens but spent most of his time at Serpentine in the Dogpatch.

He earned the nickname the "Godfather" because he knew how to run a kitchen and was always willing to help.

Friend Brandy Rocha says, "It's hard to watch these guys come here to be a better provider for their families they miss thier kids and wives send all their money home they think they're gonna come here and be safe."

Chuc has a wife and four children in Mexico. Rocha says his restaurant family is lining up in the hallway outside his hospital room hoping for good news.
