The Bay Area saw a number of record high temperatures Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
In the South Bay, San Jose reached a high of 97 degrees. That eclipsed the previous July 16 record, which was 96 and had stood since 1925, the weather service said.
In the East Bay, Concord reached a blistering 106 degrees, smashing the previous record of 102 set in 2006. Hayward (91) and Oakland (87) also set marks.
Other records included 99 degrees at Moffett Field, shattering the previous record of 86 in 1984; 87 degrees at Oakland International Airport, exceeding the previous mark of 86 in 1949; and 97 degrees in San Rafael, tying the previous record set in 1988.
In the North Bay, Napa hit a record 103 degrees and Santa Rosa reached a record high of 99.
At Santa Rosa's Airport, the mercury soared to 108 degrees Sunday, equaling the highest temperature recorded at the location since reporting began in June 1998, the weather service said. The 108 high occurred only two other times since then: June 14, 2000, and July 22, 2006.
A heat advisory was in effect through 9 p.m. Sunday across the Bay Area. Temperatures were expected to taper off a bit Monday, forecasters said.
