The American Red Cross opened an emergency assistance center on Monday at a hotel in Napa to meet with victims from last week's magnitude 6.0 magnitude earthquake, assess what they need and help them recuperate.
The center debuted at the Napa Valley Marriott Hotel at 3425 Solano Ave. in Napa and will continue to operate daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., according Red Cross spokeswoman Jennifer Sturm.
People living in both Napa and Solano counties who were affected by the 6.0 magnitude temblor in the Napa Valley are encouraged to stop by for one-on-one meetings with Red Cross caseworkers about their needs and would assist them in recovering, Sturm said.
Tim Miller, the regional chief executive officer of the American Red Cross said in a statement that the center would assist "a community still processing what happened and who need assistance planning how to move forward."
Maria Martinez and her family of four have been living in a Red Cross shelter since the temblor shook and damaged the region. They visited the emergency assistance center hoping to find something permanent housing after their studio apartment sustained damaged from the quake.
In addition to the center, the Red Cross still operates overnight shelters in Napa and Vallejo to offer people a safe place to stay, emotional support, health services, clean up supplies, food and clothing.
