It appears the 49ers have their quarterback of the future.
After sitting behind Tom Brady for the last few years, Jimmy Garoppolo has reportedly been traded to the 49ers.
San Francisco will send a 2018 second-round pick to the Patriots, according to ESPN.
According to NFL Network, the 49ers will be trading their own second-round pick to the Patriots. The 49ers also own the Saints' 2018 second-round pick.
In a corresponding move, the 49ers will release Brian Hoyer, according to ESPN. The 32-year-old signed a two-year, $12 million contract with the 49ers this summer.
The Patriots drafted Garoppolo out of Eastern Illinois in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Over the last three seasons, the soon-to-be 26-year-old appeared in 17 games for New England. He completed 63 of 94 passes for 690 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. His only two starts came at the beginning of the 2016 season when Brady was serving a suspension for his role in the 'Deflategate' incident.
Hoyer started the season as the 49ers' signal caller, but he was replaced by rookie C.J. Beathard after six games. In his two starts, Beathard has completed 39 of 74 passes for 402 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

Garoppolo, who is in the final year of his rookie deal, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the season.
