2 Reported Sexual Assaults on Arroyo Trail in Livermore Were Hoaxes: Police

Two reported sexual assaults in late April on a popular Livermore trail were not true, according to Livermore police.

A 29-year-old woman told police Tuesday she was assaulted on the Arroyo Trail at about 6 p.m. After investigators questioned the woman, she said she made the whole thing up, police said.

Two days later at around 7:50 p.m., a 23-year-old woman said she was also sexually assaulted on the trail, according to police. But after police questioned her and set up an extensive search for the suspect, the woman also admitted to making her story up.

In the past three years, there have been three reports of sexual assaults on or near the trail, police said.

In a similar case on April 20, a woman who told Redwood City police that someone tried to kidnap her that night while she was getting things from her car was lying to "gain attention from family members."
