Classes were canceled for a second day at Richmond High School Thursday after power outage caused by faulty or damaged school equipment shut the school down the day before.

The power outage affected the main breaker for the school, West Contra Costa Unified School District spokesperson Marcus Walton told NBC Bay Area, and a part was ordered and expected to be installed Thursday morning. But due to unspecified complications, the repair could not be completed in time to reopen the school.

At a little before 1 p.m. Tuesday, the power in and around the school went out.

When it became clear that the power would not be coming on any time soon, the district canceled classes and sent students home.

It's unclear what caused the outage in the surrounding neighborhood, but the campus outage isn't related to PG&E equipment, according to utility spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian.
