Body With “Distinctive Tattoo” Recovered From Lake Berryessa

Dive teams recovered the body of a 49-year-old man in Lake Berryessa on Monday, after he had a "boating mishap" last month, according to the Napa County Sheriff.

Capt. Doug Pike said the body is believed to belong to Roger Winslow of Sonoma County. A coroner tentatively ID'd him through a distinctive tattoo.

Winslow never returned from an Aug. 9 boating trip at the lake - the largest one in Napa County - when his craft "experienced a mechanical failure that caused him to be thrown from the vessel as it pitched into a hard right turn and possibly drown," Pike said.

His body was recovered in 160 feet of water using a former U.S. Navy oil skimmer that was converted by the Napa County Sheriff’s Office into a platform to support diving operations.

The Napa County Sheriff was aided by the Marin County and Santa Clara County sheriff's departments as well.
