SF Crowdfunding Site Indiegogo Raises Money for Cop Who Killed Walter Scott

San Francisco-based crowdfunding website Indiegogo has allowed a fundraising campaign for the former South Carolina police officer who fatally shot Walter Scott.

A campaign called the Michael T. Slager Defense Fund has at press time raised $1,250 of a $5,000 goal with 58 days left. 45 people have contributed money so far.

Indiegogo β€œallows anyone, anywhere to fund ideas that matter to them and just like other open platforms β€” such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter β€” we don’t judge the content of campaigns as long as they are in compliance with our Terms of Use," a representative told Mashable. The site reported that the campaign was first rejected by another crowdfunding site, GoFundMe.

Comments left on the campaign that are visible largely decry it.

"I think this murderer, I mean officer is one of the most disgraceful people I’ve ever seen in my life," wrote Mike Scheflowski.

"Looks like cold-blooded murder to me," wrote Affigne. "Anyone with more than $1 to donate here  (to "earn" the right to comment) should instead spport the victim's family β€” not to help this killer!"

"I've seen many negative reactions to this fund raiser but remember, Ofc Michael Slager deserves a competent defense no matter what the court of popular opinion says about his actions. This is still America," campaign organizer R Owens wrote in an update.
